Overview

The Winchester Pre-University offer a total of 22.5 hours' tuition per week divided between Majors (12hrs), Minors (6hrs), Masterclasses (3hrs) and end-of-week presentation (1.5hrs).

Minor subjects can be selected in advance or on arrival at Winchester.

We recommend selecting a different subject for each week.

Business Studies: Analyzing Global Brands
Explore real-world scenarios and gain insights into the strategies of global companies such as Apple, Tesla, and Nike. Develop key critical thinking skills as you research and discuss the secret of their success.
Cultural English
Using Winchester city as our classroom, our cultural English provides an insight into how language is used in the real world. Widen your knowledge of colloquial English and find out about language associated with areas of British culture.
Debate
Learn how to defend, exchange and negate complex ideas with clarity and confidence. Investigate key contemporary issues e.g. environmental migration and learn how to effectively construct clear arguments.
Digital Photography
Examine the basic functions of the camera e.g. shutter speeds and aperture size while exploring composition, landscape, still life and portraiture.
Film Making
Collaborate in small, international groups to create your own short film. Your work will be presented to students and guests at the end-of-week presentations.
GenAI: Exploring Artificial Intelligence
Explore the capabilities of generative AI through hands-on projects, such as crafting personalized stories with OpenAI's ChatGPT, generating unique artwork with RunwayML, and designing AI-driven characters with Replika.
IELTS Speaking & Listening/Academic English
Focus on a range of key listening sub-skills e.g. listening for gist, for specific information and learn tips and techniques on how to boost your scores. Find out what examiners are looking for in the IELTS exam and learn how to be a successful communicator.
Philosophy
Discuss, debate, question and query the world and your place in it. Requiring an advanced language level, this course is for those who want to tackle 'big questions' while gaining an understanding of some of history's greatest thinkers.
Politics / Model UN: Shaping Global Leaders
Look behind the headlines and understand the forces shaping the contemporary world. Learn to link theory and practice at each stage as you examine the issues central to our lives.
STEM
Evaluate evidence and think logically in this hands-on Minor. Collaborate on practical tasks that spark curiosity, critical thinking, and develop problem-solving skills.
