Student Hosts

Discovery Summer awards 100% residential scholarships to confident British children and teenagers during their summer holidays.

Applications for 2026 are being accepted from boys only. 

What do English Student Hosts do?

  • Mix with the international students, speak English and make new friends
  • Set an excellent example and follow Discovery Summer rules
  • Welcome new international students to the centre, show them around, help them settle in
  • Help international students in class
  • Participate in a wide range of sports and activities
  • Share a bedroom or sleep in a single room on the same corridor as other students
  • Go on two excursions each week; sharing British culture and local know-how
  • Attend regular meetings with the Student Host Team Leader and respond to their feedback
  • Wear a Discovery Summer blue T-shirt/hoodie everyday to be easily recognised
Application criteria
  • British and/or living in the UK for the last 3 years with a native level of English
  • Aged 11-17 years
  • Available for 2 consecutive weeks between 1 July - 7 August 2026
  • Friendly and kind - this is an intensely social role
  • Self-assured and comfortable spending time away
  • Responsible - Student Hosts always lead by example.
Is this an academic scholarship?

No! We are looking for confident, enthusiastic and friendly young people who can adapt to new situations quickly.

What skills/experience do I need?

We love welcoming talented sports people, artists and musicians to our summer programmes, but you don't need to have a skill in one area to make a great English Student Host.

What makes a great student host?

The best Student Hosts, invited back year after year, are confident, independent and responsible. They genuinely enjoy meeting new people and taking part in loads of activities.

What previous experience should I have?

Ideally, English Student Host applicants are independent and have had some leadership experience in their school or local community (e.g. school team, prefect, drama, volunteering).
